This is a killer video! And was the last ground level shots I was able to get before I had to evacuate. The second outbreak occurred early the previous night at Makamae St and Leilani Ave… the third began on Kaupili St just after sunrise the morning of May 4th.

A perched pond sits atop the west end of a very inflated Pu’u ‘O’o crater this morning, as USGS scientists continue to forecast what may be a major change in the eruption on the East rift zone. Almost the entire vent is now filled with lava… and nearly all the surface flow activity was found within a mile of the vent.

Pele’s surface lava continues to breakout on the Pali… both pahoehoe and a/a flows were observed this morning. She has also advanced about a quarter mile toward the ocean on the coastal flats.

Pele sends her hot molten rock pouring down the steepest part of the Pali (cliffs), a veritable plethora of flows break out far above the Pali, and she continues to build her new lava delta at the Kamokuna ocean entry.

Active lava lake… more lava flows going down the Pali… ocean entry lava delta growing rapidly! Pu’u ‘O’o was accessible… Pele’s lava lake spattering vigorously. The 61G surface flows are still creeping over the Pali… but they still have yet to reach the steeper part of the downslope.

Spectacular sunrise… lava flowing down the Pali… and a large portion of the lava delta disappears! Trade winds have returned, sending the plumes at Pu’u ‘O’o and the ocean entry back in their normal southwest direction.
