July 7, 2017 Hot Seat Pilot
This week’s overflight reveals some of the footage to be seen in our new “VolcanoScapes” series entitled “The Hot Seat!” Stay tuned for exciting well-known guests, engaging visits with interesting Big Island personalities… and as always, the best Kilauea Volcano lava video anywhere! You never know who might show up in “the hot seat” next! The surface flow we’ve been tracking for the past several months has cleared the Pali. Pahoehoe and a few a’a flows still dot the surface here and there above and on the Pali… but the strongest surface activity was observed on the coastal flats at the bottom of the steep cliffs. The Flyin’ Hawaiian, Paradise pilot Luka Dayton-Smith navigated the unstable air to take us close to Pele’s outrageous manifestations. The 61G tube system remains very entrenched, feeding molten lava at the ocean entry at Kamokuna. Her bench there continues to grow… and is close to four acres large now. Aloha Ducky joined Leilani the Hula Girl, Special Guest, Glass Master Daniel Moe, Bruce Omori and I had a remarkable overflight! Paradise Helicopters no ka oi… mahalo plenty, Luka!
